Establishment of passenger transport between Grosuplje and Kočevje

As part of the third phase of modernization of the Grosuplje–Kočevje railway line, safety and telecommunication devices are being installed, which are a precondition for successful and safe introduction of passenger transport. In accordance with the contract between the contracting authority (Ministry of Infrastructure) and the contractor (Consortium of Siemens Mobility GmBH and Ostria d.o.o.), the contractual deadline to complete the project and to ensure all legally prescribed conditions for operation of devices and their use in railway transport (including installation of elements and devices in public railway infrastructure) is 24 September 2020.

SŽ-Infrastructure, as the infrastructure manager, estimates that the conditions for issuing a permit for the installation of devices and the consequent establishment of public passenger transport will not be met by 1 October 2020.

The infrastructure manager estimates that by this date the conditions necessary for the establishment of public transport will not be fully met, as in procedures that affect traffic safety or human health and safety there must not be even the slightest deviation from the legal bases and standards that have been developed over the years in order to protect transport users.

The new deadline for the start of operation of passenger services on the Kočevje–Grosuplje route will be set as soon as all the necessary conditions are established.

The infrastructure manager SŽ-Infrastructure will also inform the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia and the Minister of Infrastructure Jernej Vrtovec.
