Ever wanted to go on a longer journey by car without having to drive the distance? Then try our motorail service, which carries your car while you relax and enjoy the train ride.
Motorail trains operate on the line between Bohinjska Bistrica, Podbrdo and Most na Soči, and run through the longest Slovenian rail tunnel, the Bohinj tunnel, connecting Upper Carniola (Gorenjska) in the North of Slovenia with the seaside Littoral (Primorska) in the South West.
Motorail trains can carry cars, vans, pickups, and camper vans (the driver and passengers remain in the vehicle during the trip) which don’t exceed 3 meters in height and 2.4 meters in width. Passengers and cyclists (30 places for bicycles) can also travel with the motorail train in the passenger car.
The transport of motorcycles, motor tricycles or mopeds is not permitted on motorail train.
Due to occasional high demand for motorail train transport, a limited number of wagons, and track capacity, we unfortunately cannot always accommodate all vehicles. We recommend arriving as early as possible for the scheduled departure time of the motorail train, as spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
ATTENTION! Loading of vehicles in Nova Gorica ends 15 minutes before the motorail train’s departure, and at all other stations 10 minutes before the motorail train’s departure. Loading vehicles onto the motorail train just before departure is not possible.
Timetables
The timetables are valid from 14th December 2025 to 12 December 2026.
Changes may occur in case of works or obstacles on the track. Therefore, before traveling, check the current timetable and notices.
NOTICE: Shortened route of motorail trains: Bohinjska Bistrica – Podbrdo (June 18 and 19).
We would like to inform passengers that on June 18 and 19, motorail trains number 853, 854, 857 and 858 will run on a shortened route Bohinjska Bistrica – Podbrdo and vice versa.We apologize to passengers and thank them for their understanding.

We inform passengers traveling by motorail train without a car that boarding and exiting the passenger carriage of the motorail train is on the platform next to track 9, which is located north of the station building of the Nova Gorica station.
