Your children can travel with a 50 to 75 percent discount or even free of charge.
Children under 4 years of age (in some countries the limit is 6 years of age) can travel by train free of charge. Children under 12 years of age get a 50% discount. In certain countries, fares with a 50% discount are available for children even up to 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18 years of age.
Children under 6 years of age inclusive travel free of charge in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Sweden.
The following operators have raised the age limit for children’s fares with a 50% discount:
- 15 years for travel in Hungary, Austria and Germany;
- 16 years for travel in Slovakia, Switzerland, Denmark, United Kingdom and Ireland;
- 17 years for travel in Finland;
- 18 years for travel in the Czech Republic and Norway;
- 20 years for travel in Sweden.
In Luxembourg, public transport can be used free of charge.
The above discounts are not valid for travel with Interrail. Children aged 4 to 11 can travel free of charge with a free Child Pass.
With City Star tickets for journeys to Croatia, children up to 15 years of age accompanied by an adult fare-paying passenger (either parents or grandparents) travel free of charge.
With FME tickets for journeys to Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, children up to 15 years of age accompanied by parents or grandparents travel free of charge. For journeys to Germany the age limit for free travel is 14 years of age.
