SŽ 310/316 is a class of tilting electric multiple units of Slovenske železnice.

Three multiple units, manufactured for Slovenian Railways, were delivered in 2000. The manufacturer is the Italian factory FIAT Ferroviaria. A special feature of these passenger sets is their ability to adapt to the course of the railway line by tilting, which allows higher speeds through curves. The system works on the principle of a pendulum (Italian “pendola”), which is the reason for the nickname “Pendolino”.

Each electric multiple unit consists of three air-conditioned carriages. The powered carriages are marked with the number 310, and the non-powered (middle) carriage with the number 316. There is also a buffet there, while the first carriage is a 1st class with 30 seats. In 2nd class, the total number of seats is 136. Due to the tilting, the passenger set can reach higher speeds in curves than classic trains, which allows for shorter travel times. The maximum speed that this passenger set can reach is 200 km/h, but Slovenian lines allow or permit a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Passenger sets regularly run on the Ljubljana – Maribor / Spielfeld-Strass (Austria) route.

In 1st class, passengers can use a 220V socket to work on laptops, all carriages are equipped with a wireless Wi-Fi network. Class SŽ 310 multiple units that operate some trains marked with “ICS” in the timetable also have a catering service (buffet) available (link: Price list of drinks and snacks). Each passenger on the aforementioned ICS trains with catering service can receive one free coffee, tea or water.
