Slovenian Railways train tickets for travel throughout Slovenia can also be purchased online or in the Grem z vlakom mobile app.

The app can be downloaded from Google PlayApp Store and Huawei AppGallery.

Before making any online or mobile ticket purchases, please check the timetable as well as service disruptions and rail replacement buses.

These can be found in the timetable finder or in the ‘Delays/obstacles’ tab in the Grem z vlakom mobile app (on the bottom right).

Online shop and mobile app enable you to:

Purchase SŽ tickets

  • Single/return* tickets – at the regular fare
  • Single/return* tickets for children aged 6 to 15 – at a 50% discount
  • Single/return* tickets for children under 6 – free of charge
  • Season tickets**: weekly, monthly, annual and semi-annual, issued on a SŽ chip card (renewal is possible – the first purchase must be made at a SŽ ticket office)
  • City Pass (Ljubljana)
  • The IZLETka flat-rate ticket

For the return journey, you can choose any train during the validity period of your ticket – if you will be travelling by a higher-type train, you can purchase the supplement for the higher-type train afterwards from the train staff (in cash or by VALÚ) or at train station ticket offices. When purchasing supplements on board, no penalty fare will be charged for the purchase of a ticket on board the train in line with Passenger Tariff 700.001.

If you purchase your tickets online knowing that you want to make the return journey by a higher-type train, we recommend buying two single tickets online. Add a single ticket for the selected train type to your basket for the outbound journey and the same for the return journey. The total price of two single tickets is the price of one return ticket for the specified route and train type.

**Online purchases of season tickets are loaded on the chip card upon the first validation, after a maximum of 120 minutes have elapsed, while purchases made via the Grem z vlakom mobile app are stored on the mobile phone in the ‘My tickets’ tab.

Short instructions

How to purchase tickets via the online shop

  • At eshop.sz.si/en, select your travel date as well as boarding and disembarking station.
  • The regular timetable will be displayed (without delays and rail replacement buses – you need to check these in the timetable finder); here you select the type of train you want to travel by, and submit the selected product (ticket) to your cart.
  • Please check that the selected tickets in your cart are correct. If you would like to receive a purchase receipt or a ticket to your e-mail, there is an option to enter your e-mail address on this page. You can then select your preferred payment method.
  • After successful payment (transaction), you are offered the option of saving the purchase receipt/ticket on your mobile device or printing the purchase receipt/ticket, which also contains the AZTEC code in line with the UIC standard (railway identification code), which can be scanned by the staff on board the train using their mobile terminal (validation). If you save the purchase receipt or the ticket on your mobile phone, make sure that when you present it to the on-board staff, you have sufficient screen illumination to allow the AZTEC code to be scanned or validated.

Before making any online or mobile ticket purchases, please check the timetable as well as service disruptions and rail replacement buses.

These can be found in the timetable finder or in the ‘Delays/obstacles’ tab in the Grem z vlakom mobile app (on the bottom right).

How to purchase tickets via the Grem z vlakom mobile app

Purchasing tickets in the app is done in the same way as online. The only difference is that the ticket purchased via the mobile app does not need to be sent to your e-mail address or printed, as it will be automatically saved in the app under the ‘My Tickets’ tab.

Once on board the train, open the mobile app and the ‘My Tickets’ tab, click on the ticket of your choice and present the AZTEC code to the on-board staff to scan and validate your ticket by the mobile terminal.

Before making any online or mobile ticket purchases, please check the timetable as well as service disruptions and rail replacement buses.
