Within Slovenia

Individuals using wheelchairs and electric scooters* can travel:

  • on ICS (InterCity Slovenia) trains. An ICS surcharge is required for travel on ICS trains.
  • on certain international trains (MV), EuroCity (EC) trains and most InterCity trains.
  • on all other local (LP, LPV) and regional trains (RG): low-floor trains (Siemens Desiro, Stadler Flirt, and Kiss).
People with limited mobility

*An electric scooter is used by an individual entitled, according to the regulations of the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, to use a medical device for a specific period. Before purchasing a ticket, the individual must present a certificate (document) confirming the receipt of the medical device and travel on an appropriate electric scooter (an electric scooter suitable for train travel has dimensions of up to 120 cm in length and up to 65 cm in width).

Guide dogs, assistance dogs, and service dogs do not require a muzzle or a ticket. They are allowed to travel on all trains (including ICS units) as well as on any rail replacement bus services.

Some railway stations are equipped with suitable lifts, and railway staff assists passengers in accessing platforms and trains.

To ensure the most comfortable journey for passengers with mobility impairments within the available options, it is advisable to notify us of your travel 24 hours before the train departure. Assistance to passengers with mobility and sensory impairments during boarding and disembarking from trains is available every day of the year.

People with limited mobility

The railway network in Slovenia is undergoing accelerated renovation and upgrades, including improvements to railway stations to ensure full accessibility for persons with reduced mobility.

Due to ongoing track works, replacement bus services are occasionally used instead of trains. Current changes are available in the timetable finder and on the list at potniski.sz.si/info. Delays may occur with rail replacement buses, so please take this into account when planning your journey.

Bicycles and animals cannot be transported on the mentioned buses. Exceptions are guide dogs, assistance dogs, and service dogs.

For consultation and to check the possibility of transport for wheelchair users, please call +386 1 29 13 339 at least 24 hours before your planned journey.

Abroad

In international travel, you can use Euro City (EC) trains that have suitable carriages. These trains are specifically marked in the timetable.

We recommend checking all travel options in advance, including potential transfers. Major international stations abroad usually have facilities for disabled individuals, including elevators.

Fare

In Slovenia, companions of wheelchair users travel for free; they receive a complimentary ticket at ticket sales points.

For international travel, the provisions of the General International Tariff for Passenger Transport (TCV) apply, including the Special Surcharge: Transport of Passengers in Wheelchairs and their Companions.
