Travelling by train with a bicycle is a great option, but the number of bicycle spaces is limited.
To ensure a pleasant journey for everyone, we kindly ask for your understanding and that you follow the instructions of our staff.
During periods of higher passenger volume, staff may exceptionally restrict bicycle transport, especially if it would affect the comfort of other passengers or safety during the journey. We recommend planning your trip in advance and keeping in mind that space for bicycles is limited.
Trains that allow bicycle transport can be viewed in the timetable search tool. They are marked with a bicycle pictogram:

Daily ticket price for bicycle transport: €1.50
Daily ticket price for electric bicycle transport: €3.00
Purchasing a bicycle ticket for train travel within Slovenia is only possible on the train, directly from the train staff. Payment can be made in cash, with bank cards* or via the Flik service* (*these options are not yet available on all trains).
Reservations are not available. Space for bicycles is limited. Train staff may refuse bicycle transport.
We advise against travelling with bicycles on trains during morning (6:00–8:00) and afternoon (14:00–16:00) peak hours (on weekdays).
Crowding and restrictions are also expected on trains to/from tourist destinations on weekends and holidays.
- You may only transport accompanied bicycles. The bicycle or e-bike must travel with you on the same train and route.
- You may bring only one bicycle or electric bicycle per person. You must load it onto the train yourself, supervise it during transport, and unload it yourself.
- A bicycle trailer may only be transported together with a bicycle. Two transport tickets are required (one for the bicycle and one for the trailer).
- You must place the bicycle in designated areas (depending on the train type—either wall hooks or floor spaces), or as instructed by staff, so that it does not obstruct or disturb other passengers and does not damage or dirty the train or seats.
- We advise against travelling with bicycles during morning (6:00–8:00) and afternoon (14:00–16:00) peak hours (weekdays). Crowding and restrictions are also expected on weekends and holidays on trains serving tourist destinations.
- The bicycle ticket is valid across the SŽ network, provided you also have a valid passenger ticket.
- Transporting a folding bicycle is free of charge. It must be folded and stored as luggage during the journey.
For any additional information or assistance, please contact the train staff.
- Only electric bicycles with original and completely undamaged batteries are permitted. The bicycles must not be modified in any way.
- The electric bicycle must be technically faultless and safe for transport.
- All parts of the electric bicycle, especially the battery system, must remain in their original condition as specified by the manufacturer.
- The electric bicycle must be switched off during transport.
- Charging electric bicycles on trains is not allowed. Charging during the journey presents a significant safety risk and is strictly prohibited.
- The passenger (owner/user) bears full responsibility for any damage caused by the electric bicycle to themselves, other passengers, or the carrier.
In case of non-compliance with the above rules or in case of doubt, the carrier reserves the right to refuse transport of an electric bicycle. We kindly ask all electric bicycle owners/users for understanding and strict compliance with these rules—together we help ensure a safe and pleasant journey for everyone.
Due to track works, train operations may occasionally be adjusted and replacement bus transport is organized. On these buses, bicycle transport is not allowed. Please check bicycle transport options before each journey.
Due to limited capacity, groups travelling with bicycles must announce their trip at least a few working days in advance.

Trains have limited space for bicycles
On most trains, accompanied bicycles are permitted, but space is limited. The number of bicycles depends on the type of train and its occupancy.
Bicycle transport is not allowed on the tilting train
ICS (SŽ 310 “Pendolino”), which operates on the Maribor–Ljubljana route and vice versa.
Train staff may refuse bicycle transport if there are too many bicycles, if it would obstruct other passengers, or if it could lead to dirty or damaged seats or other damage.
