Can I take my pet with me on the train in Slovenia?
Yes. You can travel together with small animals which are kept in an enclosed basket, cage or pet carrier, or which are able to travel on your lap, such as small/lap dogs. No additional charges are payable for animals which meet these conditions. Animal companions are not allowed on ICS trains, with the exception of blind persons’ guide dogs and assistance dogs for passengers with disabilities, both of which receive a ticket free of charge together with a seat reservation.

Do I need to pay a charge if I want to take my pet with me on the train?
Animals that are kept with you in an enclosed basket, cage or pet carrier and dogs up to 30cm in height can travel with you free of charge. Dogs which exceed the free allowance require a ticket at half the standard fare for Standard Class.

Whether you can bring an animal to an international journey depends on the rules applied by the train operating companies you will be travelling with. While there are some similarities between Slovenian regulations on accompanied animals and the allowances in other countries, train operators abroad nevertheless tend to have different restrictions about what animals you can take on their trains, in particular when it comes to sleeper services. The heritage train can run on any route on the Slovenian rail network.
How many people can I rent the heritage train for?
The heritage train can be rented for a single person or for as many as 230 people. Groups of 45 or more people travelling together can also book a guided tour, which can be organised either on scheduled or custom train journeys (i.e. journeys made outside regular operating times of the heritage train). Do I need to book a seat on the heritage train?
Yes. If you want to travel with the heritage train, you need to book your ticket, or purchase it at the InfoCentre in Ljubljana train station from Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 16:00.

Yes. You can bring both bicycles and animals with you on your journey with the heritage train. However the number of bicycles a train is able to carry in its luggage van is limited.

You can find real-time information on our website, with information updated every six minutes. You should always check if your train is running on schedule before making your journey. You can check train times using your mobile phone, or ask for information at a train station, ticket office, or at the InfoCentre.

Can I get my money back if my train is running late?
Yes. You can make a claim for refund if your train is running over 60 minutes behind schedule and if the fault does not lie with the railway operator. To do so, complete the refund form you receive from the ticket inspector or the staff at the train station, have it validated at the station concerned, and send the form together with any documents needed to support your claim to our Refunds department on SŽ-Potniški promet, d. o. o., Oddelek za reklamacije, Kolodvorska 11, SI-1000 Ljubljana.

Yes. If your train was running behind schedule, you can request a train delay verification from the train conductor (ticket inspector) who was present on the delayed train, at a station ticket office, or at the InfoCentre.

On which routes can I combine my train journey with bus?
You can combine train and bus services on the Ljubljana-Kamnik route by purchasing an integrated ticket, which lets you travel with our trains and with the Kam Bus bus service. Moreover, a special bus service runs free of charge from the Divača train station to the Škocjan Caves, and there is a payable bus service running between Litija train station and the town of Šmartno pri Litiji. Bus services are also available at the Koper train station, providing connections with the coastal towns such as Piran and Ankaran. Parking facilities are available at the train stations in Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, and Kranj.
Can I park for free at the station car park when I travel by train?
Travelling with ICS trains gives you access to free parking facilities at the train stations in Ljubljana in Celje, but not in Maribor, because the parking facility there is owned by the city municipality.
Can I charge my laptop computer on the train?
Yes, charger/power outlets are available in ICS First Class and on certain international trains.
How do I know if I can charge my laptop on the train?

Can I use my laptop computer on the train unrestricted?
Yes. While there are no specific rules on laptop computers, you must always make sure that using a laptop does not inconvenience other passengers. The same applies to mobile phones.
Can you alert me so I do not miss my station?
If you are travelling in a sleeper train, the train staff will alert you 30 minutes before the arrival to your destination. On other trains, passengers need to make sure on their own that they do not miss their stop, e.g. by falling asleep. A good way to prevent this is by setting the alarm on your mobile phone.

You can report your lost luggage at a station Lost Property Office or to the staff on the train where the loss occurred.
Can the luggage I lost abroad be delivered back to me?
Yes. However unaccompanied luggage cannot be carried by trains, but is instead delivered back to Slovenia by post with the delivery charge payable by the receiver.
How much luggage can I take with me on the train?
There are no specific restrictions when it comes to luggage and its dimensions. As a rule of thumb, you can bring luggage that can be placed beneath the seat or on overhead racks, or carried on your lap.
Is my bag too big to take with me on the train?
If your luggage is not suitable for transport in the passenger compartment or if you bring bulky articles, they are stored in a separate luggage compartment at a flat-rate charge of €5.00 regardless of the distance you travel.
Can I store my luggage at a train station?
Yes. You can store your luggage in self-service left luggage lockers at certain train stations.
